What’s your favourite dish?
Oh gosh, I have so MANY. What I eat totally reflects my mood… I like to think I’m super healthy but the reality is once it has potatoes, garlic, cheese and cream I’m happy. I adore potato gratin especially when made by Mrs Margaret Kavanagh (James Kavanagh's mother)… anything hearty like shepherd's pie, lasagne and steak as I’m a complete carnivore. Oh, and a huge bowl of steamed mussels in wine, garlic and cream.
What’s your favourite cuisine?
French, as mentioned above I love rich food so win, win.
Best place to grab breakfast in Ireland?
My house, my boyfriend Simon makes the best poached eggs and bacon.
Best place to grab lunch in Ireland?
I can’t choose one… The Moorings in Kerry for seafood, Minetta Deli in Sutton for the best sourdough cheese toasties and the Pidgeon House n Clontarf. Jo’Burger for their nude burgers and sweet potato fries. Also Zakura on Camden Street does a mean bento box at lunch.
Best place to have dinner in Ireland?
I love L’Gueuleton for delish steak and chips with lashings of Béarnaise, plus the atmosphere is always perfect. Octopussys in Howth for wine and seafood tapas. Da MImmo in North Strand for pizza and pasta. Finally, Luna for its decadent décor (the toilets are divine), and the meat slicer. Gorge.
Best place to get coffee in Ireland?
MInetta Deli in Sutton. The company is great too!
Best place to get a cocktail in Ireland?
Coppinger Row, I’m addicted to their Flo & Basy cocktail.
Best shop/ supermarket to grab bits for a home-cooked dinner?
What’s your favourite meal to make at home?
Gilligan’s rib eye with potato gratin and sautéed onions.
Who’s your favourite cook/ chef?
My mum. She does an awesome roast and that makes me very happy.
Do you have a favourite recipe book?
I dabble in a few, when I’m being healthy I’m all over Hemsley Hemsley, The Happy Pear and Get the Glow by Madeleine Shaw. When I want comfort I turn to Nigella, Darina, or the Avoca Cook Book. I also like Eat Like A Girl and the Little Green Spoon blogs.
Favourite restaurant you’ve ever been to & why…
Veneza in Lagos, the food is really simple, fresh and locally sourced, plus the booze is never ending. I’ve had the best nights whilst on holiday there.
What city, from your travels, has the best food?
New York. The variety is intense; I love junk as much as fine food so generally like to eat my way around Manhattan.
What’s your favourite ingredient to use in cooking?
GARLIC. You can never have enough, ever.
Best place (or website) to get gorge bits for the kitchen?
Gin & Tonic with fresh lime.
What six people would make up your dream dinner party?
OK, so firstly Solange, we all want to know what went down in that elevator. Obama, Stevie Nicks, Bill Withers, Roisin Murphy, Dolly Parton and Meryl Streep. I’d also like to invite Susan Sarandon cause its my party, oh and Oprah obviously.
What food/ ingredient do you detest?
Green peppers, they are vile.
